Books I have read this year #5
The Princess Bride by William Goldman
I’ve seen the film a million times. One of my best friends and her brother used to be able to quote the entire thing. It was impressive. The novel was another Bookfest find, and I’ve meant to read it for years. I was amazed by how much it is the film. Knowing that Goldman wrote the screenplay as well helped this make more sense. Every memorable line is in the book, all the action, word for word, and more! It’s great. The universe that Goldman created, in which his father read the story as a child but cut out the boring bits, his wife and son did not like the original story and so he endeavoured to edit it to suit was so close to convincing.
Brilliant.
